Student’s workshop looks at technology for aging

Professionals and families who care for aging adults can learn about assistive technology during a free April 8 workshop hosted by the University of Indianapolis Center for Aging & Community.

Gerontechnology: A Gateway to Senior Engagement and Caregiver Support will include demonstrations and presentations on lifting devices, software and other technology that can enhance home and work life, mobility, communication, health and recreation. Other topics will include funding options and tips for relieving caregiver stress.

The event’s organizer is UIndy graduate student Emily Abel, a certified Assistive Technology Professional who will receive her master’s degree in gerontology in May. CAC offers a range of online Aging Studies programs: a Master of Science in Gerontology, a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology and an Undergraduate Certificate in Aging Studies.

Gerontechnology is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, April 8, at the Center for Aging & Community, located on the third floor of Fountain Square Center, 901 S. Shelby St. Lunch is included.
