Drs. Rebecca Barton and Julie Bednarski of UIndy’s School of Occupational Therapy were guests Saturday on WIBC-FM’s The Sandwiched Generation.
For the weekly talk show, aimed at listeners who are raising children while also caring for their own aging parents, the two professors explained the work of occupational therapists and the benefits that OT treatment can produce for patients of all ages.
“We are a very misunderstood profession, I think,” Barton said. “‘The name ‘occupation’ describes what we do best, if you think of an occupation being anything you do throughout the day — anything that’s important to you, that you need to do, that you want to do … We’re helping people do those things.”
UIndy’s College of Health Sciences produces more occupational therapists and physical therapists than any other institution in Indiana.
