Dr. Ellen W. Miller, executive director of UIndy’s Center for Aging & Community, is a key source for a story in the latest issue of BizVoice, the magazine of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce.
Miller was interviewed for the first in a series of stories related to the chamber’s Workforce Wise initiative, which is exploring the challenges posed by the state’s aging and shrinking qualified workforce. She argued that older adults can be valuable employees and are generally more willing to adapt to change and learn new skills than conventional wisdom would suppose.
“The biggest problem is age bias,” she told the magazine. “Ageism is still a huge barrier. If you listen to a group of older adults, that message comes across loud and clear.”
A video version of the interview appeared on last weekend’s Inside Indiana Business TV show.
